Improving Prenatal Health Outcomes for Women Experiencing Incarceration
Dharma Project is starting a prenatal yoga program, in partnership with Cherished Life + Wellness, for pregnant women experiencing incarceration. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to get this program started, please join us in this unique opportunity to provide support for expectant mothers and their babies!
Prenatal Yoga provides mothers and their babies with the following:
Meeting the health care needs of pregnant incarcerated women can be difficult in a system originally designed for males. Incarceration imposes unique restrictions on pregnant women, including daily life plans, nutrition and diet, prenatal care, delivery, support, and contact with the newborn. Our program will provide practices that can teach women how to care for themselves and their babies during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum — healing their bodies, working through trauma, and building self-worth and resilience so they can overcome the difficulties they face being a mother in prison.
The goal of our programming is to create life-long habits of mindfulness and an emphasis on wellness among high-risk groups. When these practices become a lifestyle, our participants can overcome their trauma, utilize tools for self-regulation and stress management, and achieve positive brain/body development.
Through our signature Practice on Purpose program, Dharma Project partners with organizations and communities that experience high levels of stress and/or trauma to provide them with the tools and practices to care for themselves. The individuals served through this program experience improved health, self-awareness, improved body image, and mental and emotional stability. They are also more equipped for high stress situations, while simultaneously lowering their risk of burn-out.
PILOT SESSION: Book a single pilot session for your organization . This will provide exposure to your staff/clients and pave the way for ongoing self care practices to be implemented in the culture of your community.
10 SESSIONS: 10 Session Yoga Package focuses on alleviating the stress public servants and community members experience in and out of the work environment. The program also teaches how to improve breathing and breath capacity, balance heart rate, reduce stress levels, and how to cultivate a calm and focused mind. The tools learned during session will also demonstrated to be valuable in other environments, such as work and home life.
The 10-week curriculum can expand into a year-round program for an organization, police department, or education facility.
Dharma Project is also available to host your organization’s wellness event. We provide meditation, movement nutrition and lifestyle activities and education.
